"Mulla Dhiyaf Al-Jubouri" is a renowned artist and rababa player known throughout Iraq and the Arab world. He was born in 1927 in southern Mosul and passed away in Kirkuk in 1982. He was also a poet, with his full name being "Dhiyaf Jar Masoud." This tape, "The First Side," was recorded by "Saleh Al-Khayat," who specialised in recording folk music from the rural area in Mosul. His studio was located in the Al-Dawasa area, on the right bank of Mosul. He retired from work in the late 1980s and sold his shop. This tape was recorded on April 19, 1969, at the specific request of "Saleh Al-Khayat," who invited artists from all over Nineveh and covered their accommodations in order to record their art. The tape begins with readings of lines of poetry from "Al-'Ataba," a traditional type of poetry that "Mulla Dhiyaf Al-Jubouri" wrote, composed, and sang for himself.
